Before electronic water softeners were introduced in the market, one way to soften hard water is to let the water run through or be filtered by salt. However, this method is not very healthy for some people because it raises the sodium levels of the water.
On the other hand, electronic water softeners soften the hard water by letting the water pass through a strong electro-magnetic field. This way, the minerals in the water are removed, but the salt content is not increased.
